2014 and 1914,100 years apart a world apart? UPDATED

2014 marks 100 years since the start of the first world war. But that is not why I am looking back at that year. 100 years sound a long time and it is longer than most of us will life very few if any people alive in 1914 are still alive today. It may even fell like the distant past a time vastly different from our own but is it? How different was it to now lets have a look!
Lets compare and see how far we have come in the last 100 years in the UK and the world (Die Welt)
1914 women were not permit to vote 2014 they are in many country's but not all what year will this statement be 100% true?
1914 aircraft were in the very early days full stop. 2014 we have aircraft that fly at mach and beyond, passenger aircraft carrying 600 plus people thousands of miles, we not only have been into space on the moon but have numerous objects in near Earth orbit. And even with the Voyager probe left our solar system. That is breath taking advancements. And lets not forget all the off shots of tech like Gps.
1914 Telephones where the height of communication's tech and not every one had one. 2014 most people in the 1st world have either a land line or mobile (handy/cell) phone we also have the internet with it various communications means. There is only one word for this amazing.
1914 in the UK you could be conscripted 2014 not only is it not used and the British armed force are 100% in there by choice to the best of my knowledge it not even on the law books in the UK any more.
1914 The Royal Navy is the largest in the world 2014 it is the US Navy
These are only a handful of examples but it is clear to see we life in a different world and how far will we be in 2114.? Who knows! But at the rate of our current advancement it will be a different time again by a mega distance
But what do we still have in common what is the same?
We still use the pound a decimal version but still called the pound
Speak English yes it has changed and we use new words but it is still enlarge the same. If I spoke to a English person in 1065 I would not understand them 1914 I would it different what we speak now but not that different most of the words are the same.
London is still the capital
The seat of government is in the same place and most of the power structure is the same.
I am having problem with coming with many areas things are the same still. There are so few
You might say the armed force but no we have the RAF it had not been formed yet in fact not until 1919 and it precursor unit were formed in between 1915 and 1919.The navy not the same for the reason mentioned previously but it does even have the same types of ships. No battleships or cruisers any longer. And even the Army is different.

He who forgets History is doomed to repeat it

So what can we learn from 1914 in 2014?

Hull in 1914 King George dock opened it is still in use but like many things the use is vastly different form how it was used in 1914 progress does not stand still for good or ill
