So what do all those S numbers on safety footwear mean ?

When it comes safety footwear there is a rating system but what does it mean:

Remember under Uk Law (Personal protective equipment at work regs 1992) an employer is responsible the right equipment for the right job. So it is helpful to understand Ppe safety ratings

S5 turn: 200 joule toecap. All rubber or all Polymeric footwear with antistatic properties. Energy absorption of seat region. Resistance to fuel oil. Penetration resistance cleated outsole

S4 safety footwear rating turn As before with s1>s3 A 200 Joules toecap. All rubber or all polymer footwear with antistatic properties. Energy absorption of seat region. Resistance to fuel oil.

The most Christmas post I could do (A business post/products PPE)

What is dangerous in the work place! People!You!

You often hear people in place like the us say that gone don't kill people! People kill people! TRUE
The same can be said for a lot of other things including in the work place!
In the UK and Europe we have strong but often belittled safety laws but why? As I have said before misunderstanding/misinteraptions etc but this is not the topic here.
What is the most common cause of accident in the work place? Slips and trips offically but I say no people but how? What do you slip on? Spilled drinks cables etc all cause by ourselves and our collegues! True or flase?
The 1974 health and safety act say we are responsable to ensurs we work in a way that is safe to ourselves and other around us simple really!

What is the most dangerous piece of kit in the work place? The folklift? No the person? Misused the folklift is very dangeroys but sat around unused like most kit it is harmless mainly. Left IN THE wrong place it may cause harm but it did not put it self there afterall.

Remeber in regards to PPE it must be fit for the purpouse it is been used for and limit or prevent hazards not create any itself! (1998 work equipment act)
Wrong PPE can be just as bad as no PPE!

Bump caps for example are wrong on a building site that a place for a hard hat.
Steel toe cap shoes are great in many situations I have drop pallets on my feet wearing them and ran it over using pallet truck (further examples of my eariler point about people been the hazard not the item I drop the pallet) but with steel toe cap boots and shoes s1 are no good if you need s4 remember s1 isthe lowest protection s5 the top end
The right tool for the right job also goes for PPE
I mean why wear ear plugs if it cause more of a hazard than it solves? In fact it would be a voialtion of the 1974 and 1998 acts mentioned eariler and that may sound wrong from a PPE supplier but safety is paramount wearing PPE when it not need can cause hazards bot solve them.
High viz gear for examle is great to be seen in the dark in a wide range of locations but not for a solider hiding from the enermy!

Clark trading is a family owned business based in Hull ( City of culture 2017) East Yorkshire  we are owned and ran by a small 3 person team made up by myself and my parents. 2 generations mixing new and old ideas and systems.
And yes we are proud and passionate about our business.

How would you describe Clark trading?
As a small but dynamic general trader and PPE supplier. Who cares about providing a service you will never forget and achive this by aiming high and to exceed your expectations. ( For example we have over 1100 plus feedback by our 2 ebay accounts both of which are top rated power sellers)

Often you hear small business no job to big or small is this the case with Clark trading?
As a trader it a bit of a yes and no deal on this one. What I mean by this is some stock items are one of and others are on hand and reorderable if we need more so on some items like our PPE the anwser is yes, just because we are not the biggest company in the world only means we can't offer credit and will require payment first.

Who is your main couier? And other couier questions?
For many items it is MyHermes who have a above indusrty average for first time delivery success. For smaller items we use Royal mail and for much larger stuff it may be ups or other. All shipment are insured as standard and with the exepection of Royal mail as a rule  trackable and signed for deal. Most shipment are a 3-5 day deal
And yes it can be upgraded for extra how much depend on each one it will vary.

How do you pack items?
This does depend on the item for example we may if required use bubble wrap to protect items and if required more from of protection and fragile tape.All items are packed in Black pallet wrap. This is only a very breif summary as packing can vary due the varied nature of the stock

Apart from PPE what else do you stock?
Let start by saying with the PPE we have you covered from head to toe with items from several of the major brands in the sector suppiled by A BRITISH SUPPLIER and several lines including Proforce a BRITISH MANUFACTURE as well.
Our product range is varied from new to used items. As well as catalogue returns.
We sell things for the home and gardern collectables and also sorts in between and loads besides I almost forgot we do/will season dependant stock water guns from Nerf and other toys and games . Hard heads and hard hats

Did you know.

If you write or place a sticker on a hard hat you damage it and reduce it protection.
That a bump cap is not a hard hat and only for low risk situation.
And with any helmet need replacing after any knock to the helmet.

Has health and safety gone mad

We have all heard it said you can't do that because of Health and safety.  But how often is it one of the following? A misunderstand of the health and safety laws  A excuse to hide behind  Lets face it every company has different rules and laws to follow because of different curcamstantces here @ Clark trading we are no different Just remember often when health and safety is blamed even the Hse think it brammy. Using Health and safety to hide  behind is dangerous tothe workers. How? Simple they will think other rules are made up when they are not and just ignore the important ones that protect them. Don't hide behind Health and safety for blaming decission on. Either stand by them and explain them and why the rule there Or drop them  Thanks for reading
