What makes a country great? is Britain Great?

We all have a different definitions of this I am sure. And it may/is different things for different people. And different things matter to different country.

But what makes Britain great?

Could it be ?

(Britain has a long history going back 2000 plus year (England,Wales Scotland and Ireland) and that has bred a lot of traditions and history both good and bad. Some of it to be honest quite shameful (but what country doesn't)

The good the bad and Ugly ? Still has a part to play in a country's history and even what can make it great.  Like a person a country can learn from it history
  1. All the different sports we have invented (Football, Rugby Cricket and others)
  2. All those British explorers like Capitan Cook (The royal navy enable may a great scientific and Geographical Discovery of many others ) and Polar explorers
  3. The Royal Navy itself both now and in the past after all many world navy are model after it. Its traditions Etc. Including the US Navy. The oldest commissioned War ship belongs to the Royal navy HMS Victory. The Royal Navy has map/help map and chart large stretches of the world.
  4. The Nhs since 1948
  5. Home of parliamentarian government and modern democracy
  6. Yes we had Slavery in the UK and city like Liverpool grow rich from it very shameful only saving grace on this one is that we end and banned Slavery many years before the rest of the world. Thanks to William Wilberforce (from Hull)  and that the Royal Navy tried to enforce this world wide by stopping and intercepting slave ships.  First country to end slavery. The United States kept it going and even let ships use their flag to prevent the Royal Navy stopping slave ships. All Country's involved in slavery have a great shame on their record.
  7. Railways not only did we invent trains we spread and built them across  the world including in India
  8. Numerous Authors like Charles Dickens, Tolkein
