Things that might surprise you about Hull

Think you know Hull? Think again
I aim to surprise you with an few thing you don't/ didn't know about us.

Hull the Royal city yes you read that right, to start with our full name is Kingston upon Hull kings town. Prior to some time in the 12th it was Wife upon Hull until the king brought the land and founded Hull growing it from a hamlet owned by the church to a royal town.

The tale goes he the king Edward something I forget his number was lead to the hamlet by a hare of all things.

The smallest window in England is at the George hotel in the Land of green ginger.

Like York Hull had town walls unlike York we don't have them know is not quite true there s a section in East park.

Eve heard of the cod wars it involved Hull fish fleet versus the Icelandic navy it was a disaster for Hull in the long run. And talking of war did you know Hull fisherman lost their life in the north sea in 1904 due to Russian Japanese war when Russian warships mistook them for the Japanese. A section from one of the boat is in the Town docks museum and the memorial is down Hessle road.

Things I would like to see In Hull (updated)

Hull has a great asset in the shape of the Humber it is after all why Hull is both where and what it is. It is a vital maritime corridor and home to the Docks. But we could put it to other use. I am talking river cruise like in York. A little modification to Victoria pier to make a landing and your sorted. After all with over 700 years of history connected to the Humber there will be plenty to talk about.

And it not like a route would be hard to find.
Brough and military aviation Bae and Roman history all the way along to Hull and down to Paull and the fort

Plus it could be a type of floating resultant on the evening sailing uo and down the river. Maybe in the guise of the former PS Lincon castle (Yes the original was scraped but would it make a great talking point with it connection to the local area )

Did Hull City really lose the Fa Cup Final? #utt

On the 17th of May 14 Hull city AFC made history by getting to the final and by score twice in the first 8 minutes. Well done.

But no matter who you support they where never expected to win were they? But did they read that script ? No they went out there and fought hard for 120 minutes and gave Arsenal a run for its money.
They did themselves and Hull proud. They capped a great season in style what more is there to say.

#UTT Good luck to Hull City Afc in the Fa cup final

Today is a day that has made history for Hull city Afc as the first ever time they have got to the FA CUP Final.

All the pressure is on Arsenal, Hull can just go out and enjoy the game and the occasion.

SOS.from English football! Did the FA awnser?

I have discussed before on this blog about the state of English football in particular regarding the abundance of overseas players damaging the chances of England winning the world cup. Lets be frank it basically none existing. The English game is brokern. Yes it fast paced and exciting to watch but at the cost of home grown talent and I don't think it putting the case strongly enougth to say it is both wrong and a disgrace. But there is good the FA trying to find a soultion. The solution?
Is several things
Interesting
Controversial to some

The details?
To create a 5th teir in English league made up of premier league B teams like in Spain it works there they think but does it?
And this bit is what I have daid is need target for British players of at least 90 English player playing 50% of the premier league games compared to only 66 now Etc. I like this bit but does it go far enough? Plus tighten non Eu player work visa by 2020 and is it soon enough? All I can say if this bit pass it a good start but as a school report card might ssy could do better

One Hull of a city

"To Hull hell and Halifax or so the poets say"/Good lord deliver us" is an old poem circa 1650 from what I have read but it was not always negative about Hull from what I have read but about how the two towns dealt with criminals.

Hull has often been the butt if many jokes over the years. Even from only Fools and Horses

I have done blogs on why Hull is great. Is this one any different ? not really I love Hull and enjoy blogging about this city's greatness.

Why is Hull one Hull of a city (Hell) ?

Like Hull or Hate us we have shaped the history of Britain in more ways than some city's how you may ask?
Simple Just for starters any of the following:

  1. We started the English Civil war
  2. Helped Abolish Slavery
  3. Lcd was invented in Hull
  4. Many National/multinational companies founded in Hull
Need any more ?
OK
  1. Home to aviation pioneer Amy Johnson

Negatives
A negative for Hull is sometimes said to be how the Humber and River Hull are muddy and brown yes it is true but Hull can not help this
  1. The Humber drains 1/5 of  England
  2. The river Hull flows thought the Wolds a Clay rich area
